Rules for 2024 Monthly Challenge
- Digital images must be captured between the dates given for each month.
2. Only JPG files can be accepted. Please try to keep files down to a size of 2-3 MB (or less). Images must have a maximum of 1620 pixels on the horizontal side and a maximum of 1080 pixels on the vertical side. Images can be cropped to any size within these limits.
3. Our new image up-loader has been tested and should work, so please use the following URL:

You may have to copy and paste the URL into your search engine (Like Google Chrome) for it to work.
If you do nevertheless have problems with the new image up-loader, please email your entries to APPScompetitions@gmail.com with the text 2024-10 Challenge entered in the Subject line AND, separately, let Greg (GregoryTurner71@hotmail.com) know that you have sent your images through email, along with a brief outline of the problem you experienced with using the up loader link. October Challenge
Digital images for our October challenge are to be captured between Monday, 23rd September 2024 and submitted by midnight on 27th October 2024. Please see below on how to enter
Image topics
- Sunrise sunset – Enjoy the golden hour of the day. For tips try going to ‘naturettl.com‘ then sub-page sunrise / sunset
2. Animal – Any image where the main subject is an animal, domesticated pets, wild, in a zoo or on a farm. Can included insects, fish etc.
3. Creative – Based on this month’s speaker topic.

September Challenge
Digital images for our September challenge are to be captured between Monday, 26th August 2024 and submitted by midnight on Sunday 23th September 2024.
Image topics
1. The Sea (Interclub topic) – Based on Mary Livingston’s talk and also an interclub topic.
2. Bokeh – We have done Star burst and now try Bokeh pronounced Boh-kay. For fun try
frame the shot, same picture in your lens but on wide angle 28mm then
zoom 300mm and see the results.
3. Night – This could include light painting, star trails, Southern Lights but not sunsets and
sunrise.

August Challenge
Digital images for our August challenge are to be captured starting from Monday, 29th July 2024 and submitted by midnight on 25th August 2024. Please see below on how to enter.
Image topics
1. Star Burst – Use a small aperture, large f-stop like f16-22 plus. Car/street lights, Sun etc. Hint: Turn off any image stabilization to avoid blurriness.
2. Selective Colour – Pick one predominant colour – not necessarily monochrome as long as there is mainly one colour in the image.
3. Surrealism – Surreal photography would be more about creating a world or image which goes beyond the physical world; usually shows something which should be impossible in real life. Below are two links you may like to look at:

Also, feel free to type into google surrealism in photography for further ideas as well.
It has been suggested that to achieve this you may have to produce a composite of multiple images.

1. Minimalist (Interclub topic) – A form of photography that shows only the essential elements with clean lines and space.
2. Teal and Orange (Interclub topic) – These are complementary colours that work well together because they are opposites.
3. Change – A photo that shows change occurring ideally in your suburb or city. Based on Wednesday nights speaker Mark Fisher, where he will be presenting change occurring ‘then and now’. Take a photo that shows change happening right now in some manner or form.

February Challenge
Monthly challenge topics – Over the next few months the topics will be a combination of Interclub Competition topics, chosen from the speaker on club night, or from a range of topics taken from various sources. We have not yet been advised of the Interclub topics, therefore, February are all non-Interclub topics. Image topics
1. Artistic Flowers – From the 2023 speaker Shona Jaray, create an artistic flower photo. The following link will take you directly to her website for inspiration. https://shonajaray.nz/flowers-foliage/
2. The eye sees at – The eye sees at about 50 mm for a full frame sensor or 31 mm for a ¾ sensor for Olympus or Panasonic or Canon 1.6. Aim to take your photo using either 50 mm or 31 mm lens length, depending on your camera sensor.
3. Using your depth of field – Either use your lowest f-stop or your highest f-stop (e.g., f4 or f32) and take a photo. Note, you will see a difference in what is in focus. For instance, f4 means your subject will be in focus and the background blurred. Have a play with using either lowest or highest f-stop and submit your best entry.
