2024 Internal Competitions

Uploading Instructions and General Rules

Only JPG/JPEG files can be accepted. Image files must not exceed 3 MB in size. In deference to PSNZ standards, images must have a maximum of 1620 pixels on the horizontal side and a maximum of 1080 pixels on the vertical side. Images can be cropped to any size within these limits.

Images submitted should not be substantially the same as any image which has previously been entered into a JCC (or formerly APPS) internal competition and which achieved any level of recognition beyond ‘Entry acknowledgement’ in that competition.

No entry fee for financial members.

Non-members are also invited to submit images for assessment and constructive feedback, but a submission fee of $3 per image will apply for non-members.

Each image will be assessed by the judge and assigned one of these 5 classifications: Gold award, Silver award, Bronze award, Acceptance level, or Entry acknowledgement. These awards translate into points accrued for the club’s (aggregate) ladder competition, where Gold = 5 points, Silver = 4 points, Bronze = 3 points, Acceptance = 2 points, and Entry = 1 point.

Non-members are not eligible for the club’s ladder competition. Non-financial members become eligible for such points, counting towards the ladder competition, if they have paid their 2024 membership subscription by the closing date of the competition.

2024 Projected Image Competition #4

When: Entries close at midnight on Sunday, 8 September 2024.

Judge’s feedback and assessments will be presented on Wednesday, 09 October 2024.

Description:

This year’s fourth competition is now open for submissions. Entries must be submitted by Sunday, 8 September 2024 (midnight) to be considered. A maximum of 3 entries per member is permitted. There is only one (content) category for all entries: OPEN. (There is no category for a SET theme in this particular competition.) The filename for each image should conform to the following format:

[competition:2024 Proj Image #4]; [category:OPEN]; [full name of submitter]; [image title]

e.g. “2024 Proj Image #4; OPEN; Joseph Bloggs; Fantasy Island {or Untitled #1, Untitled #2, etc. (if you prefer not to give your image a specific title)}

June – Print Image, Competition #3

JCC’s third competition in 2024 will be a Print salon.

Rules for 2024 Print Salon

Opening date: Monday, 13th May 2024.

Closing date: Wednesday 26th June 2024 (which is June’s monthly club night) at 9:00 pm.

Feedback date: Wednesday 14th August 2024.

Each club member may enter up to 3 prints in the 2024 print salon. The salon will be an open-category competition, i.e. there are no set-category themes.

Each print must be at least 8 inches by 10 inches in size (whether in a vertical or horizontal orientation) and at most 16 inches by 20 inches (whether in a vertical or horizontal orientation). Note that the image displayed on the print can be smaller than the actual print size, e.g. it is acceptable for an 8-inch by 8-inch square image (or, say, a 5-inch by 10-inch panorama image) to be presented on an 8-inch by 10-inch print!

A title for the image should be recorded on the reverse of the print. Furthermore, the word “TOP” should also be recorded (on the back) close to the TOP edge of the print as you intend it to be displayed, so it is clear which is the correct orientation for viewing the image. [Note: You may record these details directly on the print itself, or record them on a separate slip of paper (or adhesive sticker) which you then tape/stick onto the back of the print.]

All print images must be lodged with Greg Turner by 9 pm of the closing day (which is a Wednesday club night). Furthermore, each entrant must also email Greg [at GregoryTurner71@hotmail.com] no later than the end of the closing day, giving your name (first name and surname) and a list of your image titles, as well as an attached digital copy of each of those images so that they can be printed onto your competition result certificates.

It is not necessary to mat your print(s), but you may do so. You may also mount your photo(s) (e.g. on a piece of backing board) if you wish to. However, for this competition, the judge will be instructed to disregard whether (and therefore how well) the print has been matted or mounted (i.e. to take no account of the quality of any special presentation of the image) in assessing the image.

The order of cost for an 8” x 10” is between $ 4 & $6 and 12”x18” between $18 & $24 depending where you go to get your prints.

Please note: Harvey Norman sometimes has specials on some enlargements.

No entry fee for financial members. A fee of $3 per print applies to non-members.

If you have any questions on the above, please send an email to Greg – GregoryTurner71@hotmail.com
