Rules for 2025 Monthly Challenge

  1. Digital images must be captured between the dates given for each month.

2. Only JPG files can be accepted. Please try to keep files down to a size of 2-3 MB (or less). Images must have a maximum of 1620 pixels on the horizontal side and a maximum of 1080 pixels on the vertical side. Images can be cropped to any size within these limits. (This is the old PSNZ standard which you may use OR see below.)

The new standard is: Only JPG files can be accepted. Files size of 2-3 MB (or less). Images must have a maximum of 3840 pixels on the horizontal side and a maximum of 2160 pixels on the vertical side. Images can be cropped to any size within these limits.

3. Our new image up-loader has been tested and should work, so please use the following URL:

You may have to copy and paste the URL into your search engine (Like Google Chrome) for it to work.

If you do nevertheless have problems with the new image up-loader, please email your entries to APPScompetitions@gmail.com with the text 2025-11 Challenge entered in the Subject line AND, separately, let Greg (GregoryTurner71@hotmail.com) know that you have sent your images through email, along with a brief outline of the problem you experienced with using the up loader link. November Challenge

Digital images for our November challenge are to be captured between 15th October 2025 and submitted by midnight on 23rd November 2025. Please see above on how to enter.

Image topics

  1.   Light Painting  – A favorite topic of last month’s speaker – people dancing with lights, using a torch to light your subject, long exposure and a tripod could help.

2.   Shadow/s – Sunlight, artificial lighting, just try to make the shadow your main subject.

3.  Transportation – Our world is one defined by how we get around. Literal

    or interpretative, find inspiration in transportation.

1.    Street Photography:  Framing and timing to create images at a decisive or poignant moment.

2.   Thinking in Threes: Ideas could be three people, pets, letter boxes etc.

3.   Creative: Let’s try to keep it in camera. (Intentional camera movement, zoom burst, multiple exposure, light trails) are just some of the ideas you can find on the internet.

1.    In the style of Ans Westra: New Zealander photographer 1936-2023. She photographed many different topics and examples can be found on the Te Papa website and bowengalleries.nz website.

2.   Straight lines: We had curves for interclub and now it’s time to go opposite with straight lines, which is not necessarily leading lines. (i.e., Power poles, trees, fence posts) – totally up to you).

3.  Macro – Subject taken from our guest speaker from Te Papa.

3.   Table top  Simply take a photo of any object(s) on a table top, you could try different lighting, angles to change the shape of the object(s) from normal view etc. (It’s winter, so it’s a bit cold to go outside. Just go for it)

Please note the increase to sizing limits but feel free to use the old sizing if you wish to as stated above.

April Challenge
